The meaning of Leisure is free time, and hindi meaning is आराम (खाली समय, फ़ुर्सत). Leisure is a spare time which we get after doing our daily work.

W.H. Davies, has written in his famous poem ‘Leisure’ :

” What is the life if full of care?

We have no time to stand and stare.”

The poet loves a carefree life. He hates a hurried and worried life. For the poet, a carefree life is a blessing.

Leisure is a spare time which we get after doing our daily work. We spend it as we like. Rest is necessary after a day ‘s hard work. Rest gives us energy. If makes us ready to resume our duty. We should not spend our leisure lying in bed or doing nothing.

Different Views :

Regarding the use of leisure thinkers do not agree. According to some in our spare period we should do nothing. Some say that idleness is a curse. Work is worship. A lazy man’s mind is a devil’s workshop. Life will be dull and charmless if we do nothing or lie in bed.

The Best Use of Leisure :

In my opinion the best use of leisure is reading interesting stories or reading the tales from the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. Robert Southey in his famous poem ‘Scholar’ says about the books of the mighty minds of old :”My never – failing friends are they.” He says :

With them, I take joy in weal

And seek relief in woe. “

Reasons of My Choice :

Reading is a good hobby as well as a good pastime. Interesting books give as great pleasure. They make us fresh and cheerful. Books put an end to all cares and worries. They also increase our knowledge. Tales from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are the stockroom of wisdom. We can learn a lot from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
